CIR FAQ
What is the end result?
The end result will be an INFOGRAPHIC, with data charts and statistics. We will have an example ready within the first few weeks of the cohort!
Will we be conducting research in a lab?
No, we will not be. Since we are a virtual organization, not all of us have access to labs.
To collect the raw data that will go into the graphs of the infographic, we will be utilizing google forms and survey methods.
Where will the poster be published?
On our website, and social media: https://sites.google.com/jisedu.or.id/upnextscientist?usp=sharing
Instagram: @upnextscientists
Can you contact the mentors of this program outside of the meeting times?
Yes, definitely. Here are ways to do this:
You can contact any Commission Member, or the Executive Director through Discord DMs
You can contact us through email (upnextscientists@gmail.com) or dm us on instagram (@upnextscientists)
You can join our office hours, an informal, discord voice call. Just hop in on the call in our discord server during these times. Stop by to get feedback, provide feedback, or just have a nice chat!
What is our primary method of communication?
We mostly use Discord and Gmail!!
I live in a different timezone, what is the attendance policy?
We will allow for 2 excused (12 hour prior notification) absences
All meetings will be recorded and slides will be sent out as well.
If time zones do not align (ie, the session happens at 12AM in your time zone), let us know and we will have accommodations for you, including watching the recordings and sending us a confirmation email.
We will be taking attendance through a google form at the end of every meeting. Failure to meet the attendance policy without prior notification will result in a certificate withdrawal and not being able to publish your poster.
In addition, assignments on google classroom count for attendance for the week as well (more later)
Am I allowed to publish my infographic elsewhere?
Yes, you are more than welcome to. Just make sure to attribute UNS.
Is it okay if I have 0 prior experience with scientific research?
Yes, absolutely! We will be teaching you everything, from surveying to statistics so as long as you learn and are attentive, it will be no problem at all
Is the program free?
Yes. All work is done voluntarily by our UNS Board Members. We thank them for their passion and dedication to creating this program without anything in return.
What is the protocol with AI?
In Week 6, we will be running all infographics through an AI checker. Plagiarism and AI is strictly not tolerated, and will result in withdrawal from the program.
Is there a way to see past projects from this program?
Yess! See the literary review posters from CIR1 members, articles and posts from our CIR2 members on our website (mentioned above).
How do assignments work?
At the end of each lesson, we will be introducing the assignments for the week. With the exception of Week 1, everything is due on google classroom before the next meeting
We will be providing feedback as the assignments come in
Submitting the assignments is CRUCIAL to continuing in this program. Failure to submit assignments will result in attendance deduction and possible withdrawal of the program
However, we totally understand if something comes up, and therefore, are flexible with extensions given prior notification
Would it be alright if I join late for some meetings?
Yes, just make sure to let us know 12 hours in advance and catch up through the recordings
Will it be a problem if I can’t attend one of the meetings?
Nope, just make sure to let us know 12 hours in advance and catch up through the recordings
Who will be teaching the course/what is the panel?
Our wonderful Literary Research Commission and Visual Research Commissions will be teaching this course.
Will we be put into groups for this program?
We had a lot of people joining us asynchronously due to time zones, so we will not be splitting into smaller groups
However, we will be sharing data and questions - it will seem like one large group!!
Why is this program free?
For a lot of countries, including the USA, volunteer experience is valued highly, sometimes even on the same level as work (for money) experience. All UNS board members get volunteer hours for their time!
